The Department of Sociology invites you to a talk titled ‘The Imperial Optic: College Studies, Race and Mobility’ by Dr. Mariam Durrani, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Hamilton College, on April 8 .

Abstract of the Talk
In this talk, Dr. Mariam Durrani will discuss the imperial optic as a conceptual orientation to see how social life on campus is refracted through war making policies to understand processes of imperial racialization across two contexts, focusing on the impact of the US wars "on terror" on higher education and youth mobility.

About the Speaker
Dr. Mariam Durrani is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Hamilton College. Her scholarship focuses on Muslim youth diasporas, race, empire, migration, and higher education.
