Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (SNIOE) is determined to develop scientific rigor and professional expertise in its undergraduate (B. Tech.) and postgraduate (M.Tech./Ph.D.) students through our wide spectrum of core and elective courses, and to train them as skilled, dynamic, and critical thinkers who can lead the country’s development from the forefront. Therefore, the Civil Engineering department has revamped its UG and PG (including PhD) curriculum toward a systems-based pedagogical approach aiming to address the challenges arising in our interconnected world. The department has modified both UG and PhD curriculum to create strong learning focus on emerging and disruptive technologies such as Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) and Remote Sensing (RS) along with core subjects at UG and M.Tech./Ph.D. levels. The Department of Civil Engineering has 13 well-experienced faculty members with Ph.D. degrees from various IITs / universities from abroad offering different academic specializations.
B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) curriculum
The department offers B. Tech. level specializations in the areas of (I) Sustainable Infrastructure Systems, (II) Water, Environment, and Climate, and (III) Urban Network Systems. The Civil Engineering B. Tech. curriculum at SNIOE was redesigned in 2022 to mold the UG students into excellent professional engineers. The modified B. Tech. Civil engineering program has been strengthened by including UG courses on “Machine learning for Civil Engineering”, “Computational methods”, “Risk and reliability analysis” and “Remote sensing & GIS”. The availability of exceptionally well-trained faculty members, state-of-the-art laboratories, computational facilities and interaction with industry experts ensures the all-round technological development of our students.
Ph.D. (Civil Engineering) curriculum
The department is committed to promoting multidisciplinary research work among the faculty members and Ph.D. / PG students in order to make meaningful societal contribution. Our Ph.D. students receive mandatory training in “Mathematical methods” and “Probabilistic data analysis & Machine learning” through advanced level courses. The research areas in Civil Engg., department are in perfect synchronization with missions of National importance established by the Govt. of India and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established by the United Nations.

The Department of Civil Engineering is progressing with a mission to promote interdisciplinary research objectives by establishing synergy among the core Civil Engineering domains of Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.
Civil Engineering Laboratories
The Department of Civil Engineering has many well-equipped laboratories for training our UG and Ph.D. students and conduct research work. In addition, the Institution has established several centralized facilities for the researchers with sophisticated research equipment e.g. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Metallic 3D printer, Energy disperssive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDX), Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), etc.
Civil Engg. UG Students Laboratories: Strength of Materials Laboratory, Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Engineering Hydrology Laboratory, Concrete Technology Laboratory, Survey and Geology Laboratory, Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Transportation Engineering Laboratory, and Soil Mechanics Laboratory.
Civil Engg. PG Research Laboratories: Civil Engg. Software Laboratory, Air Quality Laboratory, Disaster Management Laboratory, Air Sampling Laboratory, Advance Materials and Building Energy Laboratory, Theoretical and Computational Geomechanics Laboratory, Agriculture Water Management Laboratory (Field Lab), and River Engineering Laboratory (Field Lab).
