Seminar by Dr. Indranil Sarkar on " Electronic structure studies on data storage materials using Hard X-ray Photoemission spectroscopy"

Event Date:
Thursday, January 17, 2019 -
12:0013:00

In this talk, I will give a brief overview of synchrotron based electronic structure studies using hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. As an application of this method, I will be discussing our recent results on electronic structure studies on materials having data storage applications. Herein I will give couple of examples from my research.

First example will be on chalcogenide based phase change materials that are widely used used for magneto-optical data storage [1]. I will discuss the origin of metal –insulator transition in this unique class of materials that underlies its application in data storage. As second example, I will discussing how mixed magnetic materials can be designed based on magnetic Heusler alloy [2].

This talk will be pedagogical in nature
