Departmental Seminar on 22nd of August' 2019

A seminar on "Techno-economics of Turning Waste into Resources – Recycling of PET Bottles" by Mr. Narendra Kumar, ex-President, Reliance, Barabanki on Thursday, 22nd August 2019.

Abstract:

Recycling of PET is a rather fast growing market segment. Recycling of PET waste saves invaluable crude oil, sources of which are limited. Waste is a “resource in disguise”. Despite the progress, the PET waste represents a challenging and technologically difficult problem. Contamination limits the ultimate marketability of the full range of PET plastic containers collected by local recycling programs. Contamination reduces the value of recyclable PET. Ganesha Ecosphere is a widely held company, engaged in the recycling of post-consumer PET bottle waste into Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (R-PSF). The company entered into business in 1987. This company is now producing more than 100 varieties of very good quality R-PSF i.e., Textile grade fibres (1-3 denier), Dope Dyed fibres, Trilobal fibres, Coarse Denier fibres (5-80 denier), Siliconised fibre, Hollow fibre (two dimension), Hollow Siliconised fibres, Conjugated fibres (three dimension), Hollow conjugated fibres, Fire retardant fibres, Anti-microbial fibres and Short cut fibre etc.

The presentation/ techno economic talk will give an overview about the important products made of recycled PET and the essentials of flake quality and conversion technology. It will also give an insight into the business model of Ganesha Ecosphere Ltd., which is based on the underlying principles to perform better than the others in a challenging environment as well as in a favorable environment.
