The 7th SME Research Colloquium

Event Date:
Friday, November 16, 2018 -

As a part of its 7th Research Colloquium, School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) hosted a talk at Shiv Nadar University, titled, “Moving Beyond the Concept of “Rembrandts in the Attic”: Importance of Patent Data in Business”,  by Prof. Vinita Krishna, faculty member  at SME on 16th November, 2018. Patent data (the classic proxy for innovation) have been largely used in research on economics but much less on business and management. Patent data are used as repositories of information, for deriving insights on management of technology and strategic initiatives as open innovation among many, in organizations.  Moreover, there is a need to derive refined processes for a superior Intellectual Property (IP) valuation with an emphasis on the non-monetary perspective of patent value, often under-studied in the existing literature. The PLS-based research model she proposed in the talk intended to add a new perspective to the patent value models in the existing literature. Managers could work with the proposed alternative method of IP valuation for reviewing their company’s patent portfolio and further could facilitate their improved strategic decisions on the renewal or usage or abandonment of the patents
