The Department of International Relations and Governance Studies invites you to a virtual talk titled 'U.S.-India Relations - The First 100 Days of the New U.S. Administration' by Mr. Anthony Miranda, Cultural and Educational Affairs Counselor at the U.S. Mission to India, New Delhi. Moderated by Dr. Kaveri Gill, Associate Professor, Department of International Relations and Governance Studies, Shiv Nadar University, the talk will be held on March 25.

About the Speaker
Anthony joined the U.S. Mission to India as the cultural and educational affairs counselor in August 2020, where he leads efforts to engage with audiences in India, Bhutan, and the Tibetan community resident in India. Previously, he served as the public affairs counselor at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.  Overseas, he has served as the head of public affairs at the U.S. Consulate General in Munich, Germany; the director of public-diplomacy field programs at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan; the cultural attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria; and as a consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain. In Washington, Anthony has served in various capacities, including as the digital media advisor and acting spokesperson for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, as a special assistant in the Executive Secretariat advancing the Secretary of State’s overseas travel, and as a staff assistant in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.  Prior to joining the U.S. Foreign Service, Anthony practiced law at Hogan Lovells LLP in Washington, DC. He has a B.A. in English from the University of Washington and a J.D. cum laude from Boston University. A first-generation American, Anthony hails from Miami, Florida.

About Dr. Kaveri Gill
Dr. Kaveri Gill is an Associate Professor, Department of International Relations and Governance Studies, Shiv Nadar University. She spent thirteen years at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, reading Economics and Development for a BA Tripos, M. Phil, Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Fellowship, and teaching during her postdoctoral years. Since her return to India in 2007, Dr. Gill has worked in government, development agencies and public policy think tanks, including the Planning Commission of India; UNICEF; the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Oxford Policy Management (OPM). She has published widely, including a best-selling monograph with Oxford University Press, Of Poverty and Plastic: Scavenging and Scrap Trading Entrepreneurs in India's Urban Informal Economy (2010). Her research interests include the political economy of urbanization, development, informality, and the environment, as well as social policy, with an emerging interest in the Himalayan region. On deputation for 2-years from July 2021, Dr. Gill will take up the Principalship of the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education, Bengaluru.
