The Board of Studies member of the School of Natural Sciences at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence – Professor Vidita Vaidya, received the Infosys Prize for her outstanding contributions to understanding brain mechanisms that underlie mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. The Infosys Prize was instituted by the Infosys Science Foundation, a not-for-profit trust set up in 2009 by Infosys – an Indian multinational information technology company. The prize is awarded to eminent personalities of Indian origin who have done exceptional work in varied
disciplines such as Engineering and Computer Sciences, Humanities, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social
Sciences.
Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence has successfully strung together a panel of experts from diverse research fields. Three out of four Board of Studies members at Shiv Nadar IoE have received the Infosys Prize so far – Professor Mugesh from the Indian Institute of Science in 2019, Professor Arindam Ghosh from the Indian Institute of Science in 2020, and Professor Vidita Vaidya from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 2022. The Board of Studies is established to ensure a quality curriculum and a well-designed course structure at every school in Shiv Nadar IoE. The board comprises professors and experts from outside, the stalwarts in their fields, who have worked at different institutions in multiple locations over decades.
The laureate of the year, Professor Vidita Vaidya, has collaborated with Dr. Sanjeev Galande, Dean, School of Natural Sciences and HOD, Life Sciences at Shiv Nadar IoE, to look at the epigenetic side of psychiatric disorders. Dr. Galande is a renowned cell biologist, epigeneticist and academic. (Epigenetics is the study of how one's behavior and environment can cause changes that affect the way their genes work).
