Considered a first of its kind, the programme is designed jointly by faculty in Anthropology and Sociology from both institutions – SOAS and SNU. It is aimed both at students who seek advanced learning in an intensive degree program, and working professionals who seek added skills in their career paths. This MA specifically seeks to address real-world issues in the context of the most significant transformation of the planet, i.e. urbanization. It is also one of the few programmes in the world to focus on the global sociology of cities which responds to a worldwide escalation in demand for urban expertise. The curricula include issues like climate change and urban ecologies, governance and technology, health and wellness, infrastructure and material environments. Applications details and links are available below.

If you have a 3 year undergraduate degree, you need to have an additional MA degree, or any recognized one year diploma or degree in a relevant disciplines. Overall, the minimum eligibility conditions are 16 years of prior education. While we encourage social sciences or humanities degrees, we are happy to receive applications from other disciplines as well.

This program is designed to advance your skills in Urban Sociology, a discipline and area which is now considered essential for tackling some of the most urgent challenges worldwide.  With the growing need for expertise and social science knowledge in urban issues, this program will support your career choices in focussed ways. For example, you may already have a job and your last degree was a few years ago – you can apply to this programme for an upskilling and addition to your current resume. Or, you may not have enough time for a PhD – this programme will acquaint you with the latest debates and issues to help you in developing expertise.

This is full time programme and will require the student to enroll in both locations as a full time student.
