On joining the School, the program advisor will be assigned to the Ph.D. candidate, who will act as a mentor until a regular thesis supervisory committee is formed. The program advisor takes the candidate through the period of course work, committee formation, and related academic and administrative matters, where the candidate starts working on identifying a precise research topic and potential thesis supervisor from the first day of their joining.
