Partnership with Local Farm Center
The Water Management Field Laboratory, at the Department of Civil Engineering, has an established and active partnership with the local farm center, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dadri. Through this collaboration, the university provides access to its facilities, technological resources, and scientific expertise to local farmers and food producers to improve farm practices and agricultural productivity.
The university regularly conducts training programs, workshops, and interactive sessions with local farmers, thus providing practical knowledge on modern irrigation technologies, soil and irrigation water testing, and the use of weather data to inform farm-level decision-making. These capacity-building efforts are designed to enhance on-ground adoption of sustainable water management techniques and promote resilient agricultural practices. This partnership facilitates interaction between the research group and local farming communities to share scientific expertise and evidence-based recommendations on existing agricultural methods with an aim to strengthen local agricultural knowledge, encourage the use of modern technologies, and promote sustainable farming across the region.
One of the main focuses in the laboratory is developing AI-based decision-support systems aimed at enhancing crop water-use efficiency under regulated deficit drip irrigation regimes, addressing challenges caused by climate change. The ongoing research seeks to provide water-saving solutions for rice and wheat, two of India’s most widely grown and consumed crops.
