Experimental Analysis of a Novel Parabolic Trough Receiver for Direct Steam Generation

In this paper, experimental study of a parabolic trough collector and novel receiver with concentric tubes (C-PTR) for direct steam generation is presented. The performance of the C-PTR system is extensively studied by varying the parameters such as the direct normal irradiance, the mass flow rate, the type of circulation and the amount of phase change material (PCM). The maximum thermal efficiency achieved using C-PTR is averaged about 58% for the mass flow rate of 0.05 kg/s. The PCM showed very good heat retention over a period of 30 min. With further intensified research on the C-PTR tube, it might lead to the commercialization of such system for direct steam generation.
