Soft Matter & Biophysics Laboratory

In this laboratory, physics meets chemistry meets biology. In one hand, we explore soft materials to understand their physical behaviour, which is governed by the underlying mesophasic structures, on the other hand, the knowledge of fundamental sciences is employed to comprehend some biological processes, especially in the field of membrane biophysics.

Facilities in lab:

  • Langmuir trough
  • Brewster angle microscopy (BAM)
  • Surface potential analysis (SPOT)
  • In-plane and bulk rheology
  • Contact angle analysis
  • Pulsating drop interfacial rheology
  • Fluorescence optical microscope
  • Polarizing optical microscope with heating stage
  • Force tensiometer
  • This lab is also equipped with many of the basic instruments required for sample preparations (UV-cleaner, spin coater, vacuum incubator, centrifuge, tip sonicator, ionic conductivity meter etc.)

 Accessible common facilities:

  • Atomic force microscope (AFM)
  • Thin-film X-ray diffraction (XRD)
  • Profilometer
  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
