BSL-2 cell culture facility in the Department of Life Sciences

BSL-2 cell culture facility in the Department of Life Sciences

The Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) laboratory incorporates practices, equipment, and facility design that support clinical, diagnostic, and research involving moderate-risk infectious agents or toxins.

  • Cell culture facilities (BSL2) in the Department of Life Sciences are built in compliance with biosafety guidelines issued by government agencies, including the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
  • BSL2 facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art cell culture equipment.
  • An anteroom is available prior to the BSL2 area to minimize carry-over contamination.
  • All facility walls and ceilings are made of PCGI panels that are impermeable to liquids and resistant to chemicals and disinfectants.
  • The entire floor of the facility is epoxy-coated. Corners are covered, and slits are sealed to prevent contamination.
  • Biohazard warning symbols and appropriate signs are displayed. Waste segregation SOPs are available.
  • Emergency showers and eyewash stations are provided.
