Certificate Programme in Contemporary China and Tibet (CCT)

Contemporary China and Tibet (CCT) is an eight-week online certificate course on the institutions, ideology and policy processes of the Communist Party of China (CPC). China's rising military and economic capabilities are reshaping the international order and the geopolitical dynamics of India's neighbourhood, and understanding how the Party-state actually works has become essential for anyone analysing China professionally.

The course offers a historical examination of the rise of the CPC and the early years of the PRC, including its ideological foundations, before moving to the structure of the Party-state. It examines how the Party has consolidated power through its control over Chinese society and the economy, its relations with minorities, and its governance of a vast and diverse geography. A dedicated segment covers the CPC's policies in Tibet since 1950. Throughout, participants are introduced to the methods and sources needed to analyse information coming out of the PRC.

Rationale and need for this programme

Very few India-based programmes offer structured academic engagement on the CPC's institutions, ideology and ethnic-minority policy beyond a security-only lens. CCT is built for practitioners and researchers who need to interpret Chinese domestic politics and the production and control of information within the Party-state, and who require analytical tools rather than headlines. No prior China-studies experience is required.
