In a celebration of excellence, Shiv Nadar University Delhi-NCR, in association with the leading Hindi language daily Dainik Jagran, gave away certificates and medals to over 500 students who scored above 90% in their Class 12 board exams on Wednesday (June 19).
The Young Students' Excellence Award function held at Delhi's NDMC Convention Centre was attended by special guests, including Professor Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE; Mr. Kapil K Tripathi, Scientist; Vigyan Prasar, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India; and Mr. Ajay Chaudhry, Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police.
Speaking to the students, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Singh, Chairperson of Admissions, Shiv Nadar University and Associate Professor of Computer Science, said, "I wish the students success in all the goals that they have set for themselves. This event is a celebration recognizing the hard work that has gone on in the past year and the sacrifices you and your families have made. The common denominator to success is focus. All the student achievers here are examples of this. Empathy, self-understanding, and resilience are the three ingredients of success that will hold good stead in the future. Please remember that India is diverse, and you, as achievers, are responsible for carrying along people left behind."
The recently concluded Class 12 CBSE exams saw over 87% of students clearing the exams. The board had more than 24,000 students who scored above 95%, and over 1.16 lakh students secured marks above 90%.
Professor Rajive Kumar spoke to the award winners about the new opportunities offered by the government's New Education Policy and the advantages of multidisciplinary education in Indian universities.
Addressing the students, Kapil K Tripathi said that students now have an array of options for education. "It is crucial to know the purpose of the options you choose. Also, please remember to give back something positive to society from the knowledge you have acquired," he said.
Shiv Nadar University has been offering liberal scholarships to its students. In March, the university announced a new scholarship worth Rs 4 lakhs for five meritorious female students who join the B.Tech. programs in the School of Engineering in 2024. Selected students receive an annual disbursement of Rs. 1 Lakh each year throughout their four-year engineering program at the university.
"Meeting the school board toppers was an exciting experience. The balanced interest between science and humanities was very welcome. The continued dominance of girl power among young achievers is a good sign for India," said Professor Suneet Tuli, Dean, Research and Partnerships, and Dean, School of Engineering.
Ajay Chaudhry urged students always to keep their parents in mind when making important life decisions and said societal and work pressure is constant. "Please let your parents know what you are going through; they are the best people who can guide you through life's difficulties."
Shiv Nadar University also offers the School Topper's Scholarship, under which students will receive a 50% waiver on tuition fees for the four-year duration of the undergraduate program, subject to satisfying criteria for continuation of the scholarship. To avail of this, the student must be the school's topper from which he/she completed the Class 12 board.
