Every year, National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29 on the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The Day has been dedicated to the great athlete and hockey player Dhyan Chand who won gold for the Indian Olympic hockey team thrice and was also known as “The Wizard of Hockey”. The fundamental objective behind this celebration is to understand the importance of sports and physical activity in our lives for a healthy mind and healthy body. 

Shiv Nadar Institute of Eminence also celebrates this very important day with a feeling of pride as sports is a very important and integral part of the life of students, faculty, staff and residents residing inside the campus. This day motivates people to make sports a part of their daily life.

To celebrate this occasion, the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Shiv Nadar IOE organised prayer in the department. Dr. Anshu Paliwal Associate Director & Head-Student Life along with Dr. Jitendra Prajapati Assistant Dean of Student, Dr Amrish Tony, Director Sports and other coaches of the Department of Physical Education were present at that moment. Dr Amrish Tony paid his tribute to the great hockey player.

Also, the Department of Physical Education organised a Volleyball match on 29th August 2022 between the students and Support Staff. The lists of both the team’s members are as follows:

The team of students won the match by winning two sets out of three. The match lasted around 1 hour ending at around 07:00 p.m. In the last, Dr Amrish Tony motivated the students by telling them the importance of sports in our daily lives and also, that they can bring glory to themselves and the institution through sports.
