Dr Ghanshyam Pal appointed Senior Member of INAE

Dr Ghanshyam Pal has been elected a Senior Member of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), marking a significant recognition of his contributions to India’s engineering landscape. His tenure as Senior Member will span five years.

INAE, India’s only national engineering academy, brings together distinguished engineering professionals from academia, industry, research organisations and strategic sectors. As a premier body, it works to identify and address engineering challenges of national importance while providing leadership in shaping policies for the country’s technological advancement.

Dr. Pal’s election followed INAE’s rigorous selection process. Senior Members are chosen by an Individual Membership Committee chaired by an INAE Vice-President and comprising senior Fellows from across academia, industry and R&D. The final list of members is ratified by the INAE Governing Council.

Candidates must meet strict eligibility requirements, including recommendations from three eminent engineers or scientists — one of whom must be the head of the applicant’s institution — and a minimum of 10 years’ experience after receiving their first engineering degree. Their institution must also be recognised as an eminent academic or research establishment by INAE’s designated committee, with the Governing Council giving final approval.

As a Senior Member, Dr. Pal is expected to contribute to INAE’s Council and committees, helping shape policies and strategic initiatives that serve national interests. Senior Members also play a mentoring role, offering guidance and support to younger engineering professionals and students within the academy.

Responding to the announcement, Dr. Pal said, “I am humbled to receive such consideration from the Governing Council of the INAE. It inspires me to continue to work and contribute in accordance with the highest professional and ethical standards set by the esteemed INAE community.”

His appointment places him among a select group of engineering leaders entrusted with advancing India’s technological progress through research, policy guidance and professional excellence.
