Voices from the Himalayas: Sustainability, Governance Issues and Historical Memory
The Centre of Excellence for Himalayan Studies (CHS), School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, in partnership with the Department of Geography, Sikkim University, hosted a seminar on 3 December 2025 at Sikkim University, Gangtok on the theme “Voices from the Himalayas: Sustainability, Governance Issues and Historical Memory”.
The event will took place at the Barad Sadan, Conference Hall, Sikkim University Campus.
After a year of rigorous research and fieldwork conducted across Sikkim, Ladakh, Darjeeling, and Arunachal Pradesh, our post-doctoral fellows presented their findings at the event. The seminar reflected on key contemporary issues shaping the Himalayan region - including the evolving interaction between state institutions and traditional community systems, sustainability concerns arising from tourism and environmental pressures, and the importance of preserving historical and oral memories from borderland communities.
