AN EVENING OF SUFI WITH ROOHANI SISTERS

Club: SPIC MACAY

DATE: 16TH APRIL 2019

PARTICIPANTS: 250 (APPROXIMATELY)

“Music is a piece of art, that goes into ears and straight into the heart.”

Spic Macay Chapter of the Shiv Nadar University has organized a Sufi Evening with the renowned Roohani Sisters on 16th March’2019. Sufism is a form of devotional music that brings out the very soul of its every song by pouring the artists heat into it. Inspired by the works of famous Sufi saints and poets such as Rumi and Amir Khusrao, its ancient origins fail to smudge its relevance in the world music today.

The Roohani Sisters, Dr Jagriti Luthra Prasanna and Dr Neeta Pandey Negi, specialise in Sufi Jugalbandi, mellifluously performing Sufi Qalam, Qawwali, Kaafi and Ghazal variations; and merging it with the Jugalbandi style of traditional Indian Classical Music.

The Roohani Sisters have put up a show-stellar performance accompanied by a brilliant orchestra set-up for the students and the faculty members of the Shiv Nadar University. The songs they have performed, “Mann Kunto Maula”, “Akhiyan Udeek Diyan” attempt to seek the divine truth and knowledge by deepening one’s relationship with the Creator. The final song of their performance, “Dama Dam Mast Qalandar” was a treat to the gathering as they were left captured in the melody. By bringing out the very soul of every song, the Sister Duo intent to unite the listener with the Divine was fruitful. All in all, a magical night of Sufi Music ended with smiling faces and echoing melodies.
