Planning and design of 21st centuries cities

The 21st century is being called the “urban century.” By 2030, more people are projected to live in cities than in rural areas. India will add 300 million more people to urban areas by 2030. This is an opportunity and a challenge for engineers and urban planners. Can we plan and design Indian cities to meet the challenge of mobility, accessibility, safety, and local as well as global air pollution concerns?

Speaker

Prof. Geetam Tiwari is the Ministry of Urban Development Chair Professor for Transport Planning, and Coordinator for the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. She has done some extraordinary work on transport planning and road safety in India, particularly in an urban context, and has received numerous national and international awards.
