About the Webinar
CMIE's Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS) series started in January 2014. Over the past 8 years, it has conducted 24 Waves of the survey. CPHS is a continuous survey of a panel of households. The objective of the CPHS is to capture data on household income and consumption expenses and ownership of assets. CPHS set its goal to conduct fast-frequency surveys, ensure 100% near-real-time validations, create a monthly time-series of household income and expenses, generate weekly estimates of labor statistics, and a lot more. These ambitions required out-of-the-box thinking and several innovations.

The outcome of this lateral thinking on surveys and estimations was a slew of new data series. These have spurred public debates on the outcomes and also on the methods adopted by CMIE. A parallel outcome is the scores of papers that got published by academics using this dataset. Finally, many academics and multilateral agencies have used the CPHS machinery to obtain more data from the CPHS panel for their specific requirement. This was also an innovation in the use of a panel household survey machinery.

We will discuss these innovations and their implications on labor supply statistics and research in India.
