Center for Integrative and Translational Research (CITRES)
Shiv Nadar IoE has set up state-of-the-art facility - Centre for Integrative and Translational Research (CITRES). The facility is equipped to import, maintain, serve as a repository and generate in-house transgenic/knock-out mice and rats as well as zebrafish and serve as a National Facility. Easy availability of transgenic/knock-out animals to Indian researchers is critical to address basic biological as well as bio-medical/translational questions. With International collaboration the facility would be used to train technical staff and set the stage for the Facility to provide transgenic and knockout services in India. In the long term, the facility will have expertise and resources to provide services to Indian academia and industry. To reduce the use of rodents and to employ the power of genetics and cell biology of other model organisms, a state-of-the-art animal facility for biomedical research should also employ non-mammalian models like the Zebrafish, Danio rerio. All of these animal models will be used for studies in translational biology, with the ultimate goal of taking the leads from laboratory to the benchside.
Facility overview
- An integrated 30,000 square feet clean facility on campus
- Contains a 1,000 square feet BSL-3 for infectious disease studies – one among the very few such facilities in the country
- Can house multiple animal models
- Rodent models will be housed in a sterile pathogen free (SPF) environment
- Contains specialized laboratories for imaging, surgeries, microinjections, and behavior studies
- Built at a total cost of INR 50 crore
- Employ the latest gene editing technology (CRISPR-Cas) to generate customised mutant lines to serve as disease models
- Facilitate translational research in human health and various diseases (especially infectious and lifestyle disorders) using interdisciplinary approaches
