INTER DEPARTMENT MIXED BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Department of Physical Education and the Students Sports Council conducted the 1st Inter Departmental Mix Basketball Tournament (boys & girls) on the 21st and 22nd February 2019. Teams from department of CSE, ME, ECE,  EEE, Civil and Chemical, SNS & SHSS (School of Humanities and School of Social Science), BMS, MBA, PhD participated in the tournament. After the tough preliminary rounds departments of ME and SHSS managed to reach the finals of the tournament. The final was a thrilling one in which Mechanical Engineering defeated SHSS and the final score was 40-31.

In SHSS, Rohan and Nishant scored a lot of 3 pointers. In mechanical, Anirudh Dilbhagi, Hiran and Sushruth formed a good trio. A lot of girls participants was encouraged. Each team has a minimum of 1 girl playing on court. The trophy was handed over by Dr. Amrish Tony, Deputy Director, Sports.

REEZE 2019,  February 8-10, 2019 was the one of the biggest Sports meet with over 900 players paticipating from around 20 Universities and colleges. Several Sports such as Badminton, Basketball, football, Cricket, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Futsal, Chess, Squash were organised for the students of various institutions around Delhi and NCR giving them opportunities to showcase their competencies. Shiv nadar university participated in all the sports with full enthusiasm and sportsman spirit.

SPARDHA-2018, (IIT BHU) Sports Meet

Spardha 2018, the sports fest of IIT-BHU, Varanasi,  was held from 26th October to 28th October 2018. Shiv Nadar University participated in the event with a big contingent of more than 50 participants of different games such as Badminton (Boys/Girls), Basketball (Boys/ Girls), Football, Table Tennis (Boys), Lawn tennis (Girls), Taekwondo (Boys/Girls).

The performance of the SNU teams was good as they bagged with 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze medals. The results in the event are as follows:

HERO CHALLENGE-2018, BML University Sports Meet

Hero Challenge 2018, the sports fest of BML University was held from 5 th October to 7 th October 2018. SNU became the part of the mega event with a big contingent of more than 50 participants of different games such as badminton (Boys/Girls), basketball (Boys), football , table tennis (Girls),lawn tennis (Girls).

Overall it was a good performance by SNU teams as they won 3 silver,4 bronze medals. Lawn tennis girls team won silver medal as they lost to Ashoka University in final. Table tennis girls lost their final match in a close battle to Ashoka univetsity and bagged with a silver medal.
In Badminton their was individuals events , in boys doubles Evaan John and Aditiya Tiwari lost to BMU and end their winning streak with the silver medal, In girls singles, Sanjana Maurya has to satisfied with the bronze medal and lost in semi finals. Evaan John also got Bronze medal as he lost in semi in a well fought match against the opponent. In mix doubles, Aditiya and  Sanjana Maurya got bronze medal. Basketball boys got bronze medal after a great show in the event.

Dr Amrish Tony, Deputy Director, Sports appreciated the winners and motivated them to perform better in future events.

SNUSL SQUASH BOYS LEAGUE 2018

SNUSL SQUASH BOYS LEAGUE 2018, was organised from 20th to 22nd November 2018 at SNU Squash Courts by Department of Physical Education along with sports volunteers. All four clubs BULLS, PHEONIX, PANTHERS, FALCONS participated in the league. The final match was played between BULLS and PHEONIX. PHEONIX defeated BULLS by 2-1.

SNUSL BASKETBALL BOYS 2018

SNUSL Boys Basketball league 2018, was organised from 9th to 13th November 2018 by Department of Physical Education along with sports volunteers. All four clubs BULLS, PHEONIX, PANTHERS, FALCONS participated in the league. In a well fought final match, PHEONIX defeated BULLS by 93-87.

SNUSL ATHLETICS MEET 2018

The first-ever SNUSL Athletics meet was held at the university on 2nd October, 2018. All four clubs of the sports league were represented by undergraduate, post graduate and PhD students (187 participants), who competed in track events of varying range. The event was organized by the Department of Physical Education and student volunteers. The Boys final match was played between PHEONIX and PANTHERS. PANTHERS defeated PHOENIX by 3-0.

CRICKET SNUSL 2018-19

CRICKET SNUSL 2018-19 was played on Sunday, 17/02/2019 at SNU Cricket Ground against PANTHERS and FALCONS. FALCONS and PANTHERS finished at the top of the league table after the group matches and qualify for the finals.  Panthers won the Toss and elected to bat first and managed to score 147/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Anmol Mahajan was the top scorer from PANTHERS scoring 38 runs in 37 balls, other players also made their contribution of short innings, Zaffer scored 25(40), Paritosh 19(17) and Aditiya Tiwari 18(14). Uttkarsh was the leading wicket taker from FALCONS taking 2 wickets in 4 overs conceeding 26 runs, Divyansh and Vamsi has to satisfied with 1-1 wicket.

An excellent start from Nihal and Aman taking  wicket in initial overs boosted the team’s confidence. The FALCONS batsmen ticking the score over nicely combatted by a steady string of dot balls and wickets from the PANTHERS bowling attack. The FALCONS opening batting pair struggled in reply through a combination of tight bowling and excellently thought-out field placements from the PANTHERS side. The run rate was restricted throughout the innings and despite a stunning late fight-back from FALCONS, FALCONS only managed to reach a total of 129/10 from the 20 overs, leaving them 18 runs shy of victory. Innings of Vamsi 44(47), Rohit 15(14), Uttkarsh15(25), Karthik13(12) was not sufficient to chase the target. Aman and Nihal of PANTHERS took 3 wickets each and Aditiya Tiwari and Devesh took 1 wicket each.

Volleyball SNUSL 2018-19

On 5th February, the SNUSL volleyball teams set off for the final match to compete in Volleyball SNUSL, hosted by the Department of Physical Education. BULLS and FALCONS team dominated the league, winning all of their matches against other clubs. The clubs showed immense sportsmanship and love for the game- despite losing their matches.
The final match was between BULLS and FALCONS, it was the ultimate showdown between BULLS and FALCONS.  The level of play, displayed equally by both teams, was of an intensely high standard and the crowd could visually see the amount of emotional and physical input the players ejected into the game. The first set went to BULLS 25-23 and the second set won by FALCONS by 25-23 coming back into the game, the third and fourth won by BULLS by score of 25-19 and 27-25. 

FOOTBALL SNUSL 2018-19

FOOTBALL SNUSL 2018-19, was organised at Football Ground, SNU by Department of Physical Education along with Sports Committee. The tournament took place over 5 days from 18th to 22nd January 2019. The league involved two stages, the group stages where each club played the others twice in a round robin with the top two advancing to the finals.Each team comprised at least 9 players, although teams were allowed to have a maximum squad size of 14. The matches were played of 40 minutes each, with 10 mins break in between each half. Overall the tournament was a success for all involved.

After the tough preliminary rounds  BULLS and PHEONIX managed to reach the finals of the tournament.The final was played on 26th Janaury 2019. The final was a thrilling one in which after the full time the score of 0-0 PHEONIX managed to win the match in a penality shoot-outs by the score of  3-1.

BADMINTON SNUSL (BOYS/ GIRLS) 2018-19

BADMINTON SNUSL (BOYS/ GIRLS) LEAGUE 2018, was organised from 10th to 15th JANUARY 2019 at Central Hall, SNU by Department of Physical Education along with Sports Committee. All four clubs BULLS, PHEONIX, PANTHERS, FALCONS participated in the league. The Boys final match was played between BULLS and PANTHERS.

1st Round of BANYAN LEAGUE

Banyan League, a joint sports league between Shiv Nadar University, BML Munjal University, Ashoka University and OP Jindal Global University, came calling at SNU recently. In the preliminary rounds of the league, SNU faced BML. The matches were organized on the 8th of September. The matches were played in table tennis, lawn tennis, basketball, football and chess.

In lawn tennis, SNU in a tough match defeated BML 2-1. In the first boys singles match, R. Srivatsa (BML) defeated Vijay (SNU). In second girls singles match, Manognya (SNU) defeated A. Nikhita (BML). In the final mixed doubles match, the pair of Manognya and Ayush (SNU) defeated the pair of A. Nikhita and VedinAdya. 

In the basketball boys event, SNU boys showed the perfect example of team game and coordination as they defeated BML 35-22. In the basketball girls event, SNU girls were totally in command of the match and didn't give a chance to BML and won 41-8.

In table tennis, in the girls team event, SNU won courtesy a walkover. In the first boys singles match, Pulkit (SNU) beat Nimish (BML) 11-3, 11-09, 11-06, giving SNU a lead of 1-0. In the second boys singles match, Harshil Negi (SNU) defeated Praman in a tough competitive match 11-05, 07-11, 11-06, 07-11, 11-06 and extended the lead to 2-0. In the decider match, both the players were equally skilled, Pulkit (SNU) defeated Praman (BML) 11-07, 11-08, 06-11, 08-11, 11-08.

In football, accompanied by frantic cheering, SNU and BML played out a draw at the time of the final whistle.

1st INTER DEPARTMENTAL MIXED VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 2018

The Department of Physical Education organized the First-Inter Department Volleyball Tournament on 12th of September, 2018. Ten teams from different schools of SNU participated in the event. After a tough competition in preliminary rounds, four teams, EEE, ECE, BMS & ME qualified for the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, ECE beat EEE. In the second semi-final, BMS beat ME. In the final, ME beat defeated ECE by score 25-14, 22-25, 15-10.

RED BULL SHUTTLE UP GIRLS BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

Red Bull under the aegis of the Department of Physical Education organized the “Red Bull Shuttle Up Badminton Tournament for Girls” on the 1st of September at SNU indoor sports complex. This event witnessed good participation as 16 teams participated in the girls doubles event. In the final, Sanjana Maurya (SHSS) & Riya Dogra (SNS) defeated the pair of Manognya Gudapati (SoE) & Arushie Rishi (SHSS) 16-14, 15-13. Both the pairs will now take part in the Red Bull Shuttle Up City Challenge which is going to be held on the 5th of October at Gurugram.

BADMINTON OPEN TOURNAMENT 2018

The Badminton Open Tournament for Boys was organized by the Department of Physical Education on the 9th of September, 2018. The tournament was conducted in two categories - singles & doubles. More than 50 players from all departments of this university participated. The results are as follows:

NATIONAL SPORTS DAY : "YOGATHON 2018"

The Department of Physical Education organized Yogathon 2018. In  yogathon, Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) was performed. The target was to complete 108 Surya Namaskar. More than 200 participants including Faculty, Staff, Students, Resident Families and Children transcended the barriers of age, culture and physical ability to take the 108 sun salutation challenge.

Department of Physical Education and the Students Sports Council conducted  the First Inter Departmental Football Tournament (boys & girls) on the eve of 72nd Independence Day. Teams from department of CSE, ME, ECE,  EEE, Civil and Chemical, SNS & SHSS (School of Humanities and School of Social Science), BMS, MBA, PhD participated in the tournament. After the tough preliminary rounds departments of ME and EEE managed to reach the finals of the tournament. The final was a thrilling one in which after the full time the score of 1-1 ME department managed to win the match in a penality shoot-outs by the score of 4-3. The trophy was awarded by the President, Mr. Rajeev Swarup and Dr. Amrish Tony (Deputy Director) Physical Education, to the winning Department’s Head or the respective team.

Chess Tournament For Orientation Programe

Department of Physical Education organized the Chess Tournament for freshmen students as part of their orientation program. The tournament was held on 24/7/2018 in SNU Chess Garden. This session was lead by Dr. S.N. Balakrishnan, Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University and the Chairman of the Executive Council along with Mr. Rajiv Swarup, President of Shiv Nadar University.

With 21 participants in total, 20 matches were played. The game of Chess received very healthy response from all students present that day.

The players for the clubs are selected by an auction based system. There was a need to disintegrate teams and thus a new system is formulated in relation to the auction of players.

Another change to the format is in points system where each club is provided with 5200 points for auction, 400 points for each sports are allocated.

In relation to four new clubs each club will have a designated faculty manager’s, student manager, assistant student manager and a team captain for each of the 11 sports.

This season of 2018 - 19 three new sports have been introduced and included which are as follows:

3.Squash.

This year during the 6th edition of SNUSL few major changes have been done to improve participation, to increase level of competition and make SNUSL more professional.

Number of Clubs has been reduced from 6 to 4 with new names as chosen and approved by the governing student council. Clubs have been renamed as below.

2.Falcons

3.Phoenix

4.Panthers

SNUSL is a student sports council initiative which was introduced in 2013, constituted of 6 clubs namely Silver Hawks, Shadows, Flying Dutchman, Titans, Supersonic, and Skylarks. The first season of SNUSL in 2013 witnessed brilliant competition among the teams which eventually turned into a huge success. Since then SNUSL has become an integral part of the sports program, with activities spread throughout the academic year.

SNUSL objective has helped the university sports to build stronger teams and also provide an opportunity for searching sports talent among the students. Over the years, participation in SNUSL has increased among the student’s community of SNU sports.

Sports and extracurricular activities are an integral part of learning and growth for students and faculty on campus at Shiv Nadar University. With world-class infrastructure on campus and highly qualified coaches, the sports department works to create and sustain a strong sports culture. At Shiv Nadar University, Students have ample opportunities to achieve a healthy body and a nourished mind. A 1,20,000-sq. feet grand Indoor Sports Complex and 5,71,410 Square feet of outdoor international standard playing fields, stands as a milestone in creating a rich culture of physical activity on campus and develop competitive skills.

Indoor Sports Complex

One of the major highlights at the University campus is the state-of-the-art Indoor Sports Complex, winner at the prestigious NDTV's Design & Architecture Awards during its fifth edition in 2017.

A 120,000 sq. feet Grand Indoor Sports Complex stands

Badminton

One of the major attractions are the indoor badminton courts with terra flex mat and wooden courts which are a sight that no one can say no to for playing 

Indoor Basketball

2 international standard indoor wooden courts are housed in the SNU indoor sports complex. The indoor courts are also host to many national level basketball championships

Table Tennis

A dedidcated state of the art Table Tennis hall situated at the ground floor of SNU Indoor Sports Complex with four international standard Table Tennis boards for regular competative training under the guidence of coach, morning and evening.

Fitness Centre

Interested to stay fit or build up your muscles, use the facility at state of the art unisex fitness centre (Gym) at the indoor sports complex with high end cardio machines, weight stations and strenghting equipment. 

Yoga

Come flex, bend, stretch and beat your stress with meditation at our yoga classes in yoga hall at the Indoor sports complex. 

Squash

Pure and professional 4 squash courts are available for the squash enthusiasts for practicing and compete at the high ranking tournaments which takes place at SNU squash arena from time to time.

Cricket

A full turf wicket along with 2 turf nets adds a charm to the most common game of our country. SNU cricket feild is host to many cricket matches internally and externaly

Volleyball

Jump, hit and smash at the 2 outdoor volleyball courts under the sun or at night with well lit flood lights

Tennis

Soccer

A full international standard green soccer feild provides an opportunity to all players playing professionally or leasurely. Many internal and external tournments are organsied from time to time

If you have the passion for slam dunk or just want to shoot some hoops, 3 outdoor international standard synthetic basketball courts are provided

Indoor Running Track

A 200 meter indoor running track on first floor at the SNU indoor sports complex beats the heat in summer and the winter chills during winter season providing perfect ambience for a fitness run. 

Indoor & Outdoor Wall Climbing

Two professional indoor (9 meters in height) and outdoor (13 meters in height) artificial walls add up to the adventure facility at the indoor sports complex.

Chess Garden

Interested to play chess in a small board or be a part of the chess with life size chess garden, lights up at night or during the day. Fit for playing individually or solve the team building puzzles with your friends.
