These structures may include capital projects like dams, airports, sewage pipes, canals, and so on, as well as generic structures like buildings, skyscrapers, and houses.
Civil Engineering is the world's second oldest and most diverse branch of engineering, after military engineering. A professional degree in Civil Engineering equips a person with the capabilities to work in the industry of structures and handle a company's financial and business aspects as well.
Nowadays, Civil Engineering has deep roots in the public sector (from municipalities to government offices) and the private sector (from builders to architects). Over the years, this branch of engineering has emerged as a burgeoning form of design science.
What Do Civil Engineers Do?
Let us first define the role of Civil Engineers: they conceptualize, design, construct, supervise, operate, and maintain infrastructure projects and systems in both the public and private spheres. These include roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, water supply systems, bridges, and other infrastructure projects.
Civil engineers are now liable for not only construction planning and implementation but also the maintenance of public infrastructures such as roads, rails, bridges, waste networks, and much more. Therefore, the effective utilization and operation of essential public resources are crucial to a civil engineer’s work.
Civil engineers are required to debug any critical problems and effectively address the problem as soon as possible while remaining cost-effective. Although Civil Engineering has many specializations, regardless of how complex the environment is, creativity, problem-solving ability, and teamwork are some critical elements for advancement in a civil engineering role.
B. Tech. in Civil Engineering - Pave Your Way to Become a Nextgen Civil Engineer

Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (Deemed to be University) aspires to be a global pioneer in creating engineering solutions for large-scale societal challenges. The practice of Civil Engineering is changing, but conventional civil engineering programs in India have been slow to adapt, allowing the B. Tech. in the Civil Engineering program at Shiv Nadar IoE to establish its own identity. Shiv Nadar IoE's Department of Civil Engineering is thriving under the auspices of the School of Engineering.
B. Tech. Civil Engineering Eligibility at Shiv Nadar IoE
Shiv Nadar IoE's eligibility criteria identify candidates with subject knowledge as the foundation for each program. While students are admitted to a specific program, after one year (of being admitted to the course), the University permits them to shift to another program/school within the University, subject to the policies governing such a transfer. The B. Tech. Civil Engineering eligibility and admission process at Shiv Nadar IoE is as follows:
Route 1: JEE Mains 80% - Candidates scoring at or above 80 percentile in JEE (Mains) are eligible for direct admission offers. However, each department will have a different cut-off for admission. SNUSAT and APT will be waived for entries via this route.
We may consider candidates between the 75-80 percentiles for direct admission to certain branches, but only after an additional interview/test. The Admissions Team will inform you of this.
Route 2: SNUSAT + APT - Candidates with less than 80 percentile will be required to take both the SNUSAT and the APT. Admissions via this route do not require an interview.
Route 3: SAT + Interview - Candidates can apply based on their SAT scores.
Admission is a critical step in pursuing a B. Tech. in Civil Engineering degree at Shiv Nadar IoE. The admission process consists of three stages: a) meeting the eligibility criteria, b) filling out applications, and c) taking the entrance exams. Candidates for B. Tech. in Civil Engineering must complete the application procedures. In addition, candidates must meet the eligibility metrics to be considered for further admission processes.
