Ph.D. in Civil Engineering Admission Announcement: Monsoon - 2026
The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (SNIoE) invites applications for admissions in the Ph.D. program (Duration: 5 Years). Students admitted for the full-time, residential Ph.D. program will receive a fellowship-stipend of ₹45,000/- per month for the first two years and ₹50,000/- for the next three years, subject to candidate fulfilling the departmental and university academic requirements. A Research Grant of INR 1,50,000 (One Lakh fifty thousand) is available for the students to be used for conference (only Scopus indexed) travel (domestic and/or international) during the 5-year period of the Ph.D. program.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Tech./M.E. in Civil Engineering/ Structural Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ Geotechnical Engineering/ Transportation Engineering/ Water Resources Engineering/ Geomatics Engineering/ Construction Technology and Management/ Built Environment/ other relevant disciplines with a minimum of 60% or 6 out of 10 CGPA from a recognized technical institute or university.
- Sc. in Environmental Science/ Geoinformatics/ Agricultural Sciences/ Physics/ Chemistry/ other relevant disciplines of science with a minimum of 65% or 6.5 out of 10 CGPA from a recognized institute or university.
- Tech. in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree in engineering with a minimum of 75% or 7.5 out of 10 CGPA from a recognized technical institute or university.
Candidates who are awaiting the results of the qualifying examination are also welcome to apply.
Note: Applicants applying for part-time PhD must meet one of the above-mentioned criteria. In addition to that, the applicant must be an active employee in a company /organization/ institute and must submit NOC from their respective employer along with the application. Part-time Ph.D. candidates are not eligible for Institute Fellowships.
SELECTION PROCESS
Eligible candidates will be called for a written test (online mode) conducted by the department. Applicants with a valid GATE score in Civil Engineering or allied areas are exempted from the written test. Candidates successful in the written test will be invited for the technical interview. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and preparation in Civil Engineering through the written test and interview to be held as per the timeline mentioned in table below.
Final selection of the candidates will be done by Departmental Selection Committee after completing the process (written test and interview). Eligibility criteria mentioned above are the only minimum requirements and the department may apply additional shortlisting criteria for the PhD admission process.
Applicants waiting for the qualifying examination results are also eligible to apply. However, they must produce all the required proofs of eligibility at the time of admission. Failing to produce the necessary documents at the time of admission will lead to the automatic cancellation of admission.

SYLLABUS FOR WRITTEN TEST
The syllabus for the written test is the Civil Engineering syllabus of GATE 2026 https://gate2026.iitg.ac.in/doc/GATE2026_Syllabus/CE_2026_Syllabus.pdf. The syllabus for the applicants with a particular area of specialization in M. Tech. in Civil Engineering may be customized based on the applicant’s specialization; however, it is at the discretion of the department to provide a common/specialized syllabus for written test. TUITION FEE AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
All full-time Ph.D. students admitted into the program shall receive a monthly stipend of ₹45,000 per month for the first two years, and ₹50,000 per month for the next three years, subject to benchmarked performance that is evaluated continuously. The continuation of the award is subject to satisfactory performance in the program, evaluated continuously, and compliance with all university regulations. Support will be available for the Ph.D. students to disseminate their work through conferences and publications. For this, a Research Grant of INR 1,50,000 (One Lakh fifty thousand) is available for students to be used for conference (only Scopus indexed) travel (domestic and/or international) during the 5-year period of Ph.D. program. The hostel fees and other financial regulations are mentioned in admission website.
