Admission Announcement

The Department of English, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, invites applications for admission to its M.A. English programme for the academic year 2026–27.

Programme Overview

The M.A. in English is a two-year (four-semester) programme that combines intellectual rigour with creative and critical inquiry. The curriculum introduces students to major periods in English literary history and world literature, while also offering advanced coursework in critical and cultural theory, translation studies, creative writing, visual theory, and digital humanities.

The programme prepares students for a range of academic and professional pathways, including doctoral research, competitive examinations, publishing, media, and related fields. The department places particular emphasis on research training and actively supports students seeking admission to Ph.D. programmes in India and abroad. Graduates of the programme have gone on to conduct doctoral studies at leading universities worldwide, and have taken up a wide range of professional roles in higher education, non-profit, and for-profit industries.

The department offers teaching and research assistantships to all M.A. students. Students are expected to assist a faculty member with teaching and research for a fixed number of hours a week. Students are paid a stipend for their work.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:

Candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in any discipline, from a recognised university or institution, with a minimum cumulative aggregate of 50 percent at the time of application, are eligible to apply. Admission will be provisional, subject to completion of the undergraduate degree before the start of the programme.

  • Students notified of Interviews: 19 June 2026
  • Interviews: 26-27 June 2026

Intake

   Admission is sought for a maximum of 10 seats. The University reserves the right to admit  fewer students if suitable candidates are not identified.

Stipend

All selected students receive a stipend for teaching and research assistantships. Continuation of financial assistance is subject to satisfactory performance evaluated continuously and compliance with all University regulations. The student is required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.00.

Application Instructions

Step 1: Applications must be submitted online using the link provided on the admissions portal. Applicants should ensure that all required information and documents are uploaded correctly.

Step 2: Eligible applicants will be required to appear for an online written examination, which will assess critical thinking, analytical writing, and familiarity with foundational concepts in literary studies.

Step 3: Shortlisted candidates from the written examination will be invited for an interview.

Final selection will be based on a cumulative evaluation of performance in the written examination and the interview.
