The Department of Art, Media and Performance seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor on a fixed, contractual basis (2 years). The candidate will be expected to design, and teach courses centred on visual art, architecture, and broadly, cultural history, and politics from 1945 onwards; a focus on global south positionality will be required.
This full-time position will also include teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as administrative duties pertaining to the activities of the Department, and other institutionally grounded processes for mentoring students. Overall, as a full-time member of the Department, the candidate is expected to contribute to the Department’s teaching, mentoring, administrative duties.
Essential Qualifications:
- Candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree, with a specialization in in Art History/Cultural History/Visual Studies/ Visual Culture from an Indian or foreign institution of high standing.
- Candidate must have published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work out of which at least one must be in a refereed journal; and/or candidate has at least 3 years of work experience in industry prior to beginning a PhD program.
- Candidate must have made at least two presentations in conference/seminars, based on his/her Ph.D. work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching/mentoring at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Demonstrable specialization in contemporary art, visual culture, cultural history and politics.
- Demonstrable research interests in social, political and historical dimensions of artistic production
Selection Process
- Initial shortlisting will be done on the basis of the submitted application. The application should include a Curriculum Vitae, Teaching Statement and Research Statement (500 words each).
- Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview in the first week of July.
- Following selection, degree and experience certificates, and employment records will be verified.
- The selected candidate is expected to take up the position from August 2026 onwards.
