Col Sekhar was commissioned into Indian Army, Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers in December 1987. He has served the Indian Army for 22 years up to April 2009. Between 2009 and June 2024, he has been associated with four of India’s Institutions of National Importance: NIT Raipur, IIT Indore, IISER Pune and IISER Tirupati, autonomous body under Ministry of Education, Government of India. As such, he brings with him a vast experience in building institutions and the governance of Higher Education Institutions in the country. His domain expertise lies in governance, administration, finance, infrastructure development, human resources management, and legal matters.

While serving with the Indian Army, Col Sekhar has taught courses for the M.Tech. programme and guided projects for M.Tech. students. He holds a B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering, M.E. in Thermal Engineering and
M.B.A. in Finance.
