Ph.D. in Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence is committed to building an outstanding PhD program that serves the evolving demands of industry, academia, and society at large. The department addresses the most important issues in civil engineering and related fields by bringing together outstanding faculty members, industry professionals, and international research partners through a uniquely tailored Ph.D. program. Our Ph.D. programme spans a broad and evolving spectrum of research areas, reflecting both foundational engineering disciplines and emerging frontiers. The primary research domains of the department span Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. Complementing these, the department actively promotes multidisciplinary research in fields such as Building Physics and Energy Efficiency, Disaster Management, Remote Sensing and GIS, and Smart Agricultural Water Management to embrace emerging frontiers of Civil Engineering. 

The Department of Civil Engineering has 12 well-experienced faculty members, with Ph.D. degrees from various IITs / universities from abroad, offering different academic specializations. The department has several advanced research laboratories such as Civil Engineering Computing Laboratory, Air Quality Laboratory, Disaster Management Laboratory, Air Sampling Laboratory, Advance Materials and Building Energy Laboratory, Intelligent Geosystems Laboratory, Agricultural Water Management Laboratory (Field Lab), and River Engineering Laboratory (Field Lab), which is aligned with cutting-edge research environment.

The Department invites applications for admission to the Ph.D. program. Students admitted for full-time Ph.D. program will receive a fellowship-stipend of ₹45,000/- per month for the first two years and ₹50,000/- for the last three years, subject to candidate fulfilling the departmental and university academic requirements. A Research Grant of ₹ 1,50,000 (One Lakh fifty thousand) is available for the students to be used for conference (only Scopus indexed) travel (domestic and/or international) during the 5-year period of Ph.D. program.
