Physics Of DNA Macromolecules
DNA-based nanotechnology is in the fore front of research for biomedical and sensor applications. Stiffness or flexibility of a polymer play a crucial role in its applications. To get insight into the structural evolution, various inorganic and organic molecules are added to tune the inter-polymer interactions to tune their properties. It is found that an ionic liquid (IL) is an appropriate organic solvent for the long-term stability of the DNA macromolecules. The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions between DNA and these organic salts lead to interesting phenomena in the aqueous solution of DNA. The group is working to understand the physics of this behavior by employing various experimental techniques.
