The Department of Finance, Accounting and Control (School of Management and Entrepreneurship) and The Department of Economics (School of Humanities & Social Sciences) has taken the lead to jointly offer the first-ever inter-disciplinary program involving multiple schools at the University. Overview
The B.Sc. (Research) in Economics and Finance (BSEF) is offered jointly by the School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). This is an interdisciplinary program designed to leverage the linkages between economic theory and the challenge of management of financial markets. The strengths of the departments of Finance, Accounting and Control in SME and Economics in SHSS combine in training and preparing students of BSEF to succeed in the dynamic and competitive world of Currencies, Money, Risk, and Finance.
The curriculum has been carefully planned keeping in mind the increasing need, relevance and application of the fundamental theories of economics and finance to the rapidly changing world of money and technology. The BSEF program equips students with a broad, as well as a deep understanding of the profound connections between the structure of economies and the functioning of markets and institutions in general, and with capital markets and financial institutions in particular.
Multidisciplinary Approach
The fields of finance and economics are two natural allies that gain the power of synergy when combined. This program exemplifies the first experiment with the multi-disciplinary program at the University. It seamlessly integrates the key tools, theories, and other knowledge generated in the fields of economics and finance and equips the students with the knowledge and skill set needed for approaching real-life issues.
Integrated Research Focus
Research is ingrained into the pedagogy early on, in this program. Courses like Logic & Scientific Methods and Academic Writing help develop critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and academic performance and shape the thinking process towards a systematic approach to problem-solving and report writing. While ‘Research Seminar’ is a focused research course, a majority of other courses have a research component as part of the evaluation scheme. Additionally, students can utilize the university-wide “Opportunity for Undergraduate Research (OUR)” to experience research first-hand.
Industry / Research Internships
Industry internships are envisaged as a bridge between classroom learning and active participation in decision-making. The semester-long internship program helps students gain valuable insights from working with a business organization. The internships offer a base to your career choices while providing an experience in getting hands-on knowledge and developing skills to be future-ready. It can also be a research internship in universities, research organizations, and think-tanks, that can prepare them for a career in research and academics.
