Dr. Nitin Burud received his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. His research focuses on fracture and fatigue in materials,, specializing in structural health monitoring applications that use statistical data analysis. He extensively worked on the acoustic emission technique to understand the fracture process in concrete-like, quasi-brittle cementitious materials. Bringing a complexity perspective to understand the fracture process in concrete and the application of Tsallis entropy as a measure of the complexity is a central idea of his recent research. Before joining Shiv Nadar University, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. At the University of Surrey, he investigated fatigue behaviour of a 130-year-old railway metal bridge through large-scale laboratory testing and numerical modelling.
