My research interests are Natural Language Processing, Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Language Change, Translation Studies and Sanskrit literature.
My teaching and research are in sync. Over the years my research work has helped in publishing research papers as well as in formulating course-curriculum and research methodologies. From 2016-2019, I worked on a linguistic research project- ‘Language-Change in Newly Urbanized Places in NCR’. I teach "Mapping Language Change', a 400 level course, based on the methodology used in, and the conclusions derived from my linguistic research project on language change. I regularly work on different translation projects which help me update my translation course from time to time.
I work with huge textual data. Digital tools have revolutionized the data analysis techniques. Indian languages don’t have many sophisticated, new-age digital tools. Fortunately, many Indian scholars have realized this need, and are creating digital linguistic tools for Indian languages. Since, I work with Hindi language, I have designed a multi-purpose Hindi text mining software- 'Shabdshilpi'. This software hosts concordances, collocates, search engine and frequency generator for lexical clusters. The core of any digital linguistic tool is the lexical dataset of that particular language. Naturally, I have created a digital dictionary (Akshara) for my toolkit. It has approx. 80000 lexical entries. It is a work in progress.
Another dimension of my research is to examine literary and critical practices of ancient Sanskrit texts. My current research project focuses on the concept of ‘Shastrarth’ in Sanskrit texts.
