What you will learn
- Foundations of Mandarin for Security Communication – essential structures and core vocabulary for basic interaction in international and security-related contexts.
- Social, Academic & Analytical Communication – functional language for academic discussion, analytical exchange and professional interaction in security studies.
- Chinese for Security Affairs & Global Threats – terminology and policy language covering regional security, crisis response, defence cooperation, human security and emerging threats.
- Applied Mandarin for Security Meetings & Crisis Scenarios – language applied in simulated briefings, consultations, crisis communication and operational dialogue.
Who should join
Students and professionals interested in international security, geopolitics, defence, intelligence, strategic studies and Indo-Pacific affairs. No prior Mandarin needed.
What you will gain
- Read, write and recognise approximately 80 Chinese characters and 150 basic words and phrases.
- Understand the principles of Chinese sentence structure.
- Use basic phrases and introductions in Chinese with confidence.
- Apply Mandarin in security settings such as briefings, consultations and simulated crisis scenarios.
Assessment
Module tasks (30%), oral performance checks (30%), and an end-of-term performance review (40%).
Moving to the next level
Qualifying for the next level of Chinese requires attendance of 28 of 32 contact hours and passing the final assignment.
Certificate
On successful completion, participants receive a certificate from Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. This is a non-credit professional certificate programme and carries no academic equivalence with University degree programmes.
