Revamping the efficiency of the hybrid solar-thermal system using advanced composite material with a self-cleaning mechanism

Discover how advanced composite materials with a self-cleaning mechanism are transforming hybrid solar-thermal systems:

  • Seamless Material Transition: A systematic material gradient from 70% to 0% copper ensures smooth property transitions across the structure for Copper/HDPE functionally graded material.
  • Hybrid Technology Innovation: These systems effectively harness solar radiation and thermal energy, addressing the limitations of standalone PV or thermal setups.
  • Combatting Dust Accumulation: A self-cleaning mechanism reduces the impact of dust, critical for maintaining energy output in dusty environments.
  • Efficiency Across Seasons: While thermal efficiency drops in colder months like December, innovations maintain robust performance.

Key Findings:

  • In October 2024, a 28 cm x 28 cm system achieved 88% overall efficiency with 14.9% recovery in electrical efficiency at 850 W/m² and 66 ml/min flow rate.
  • In December, a larger 52 cm x 52 cm hybrid system achieved 61.68% overall efficiency with electrical efficiencies of 14.31% and 14.67% at flow rates of 70 ml/min and 35 ml/min, respectively.

This breakthrough underscores the potential of hybrid solar-thermal systems in advancing renewable energy technology.
