Rajesh Chakrabarti is a distinguished academic, policy advisor, and thought leader in the fields of finance, public policy, and management education. His career spans over two decades across academic institutions and policy organizations globally and in India.
Prior to his current position as Dean of the School of Management at Bennett University, Dr. Chakrabarti has served as Director at the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon and the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology as well as Dean at Jindal Global Business School. As the founding Executive Director of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy at the Indian School of Business (ISB), he played a pivotal role in launching its highly successful Management Program in Public Policy.
Dr. Chakrabarti’s research focuses on Indian financial markets, corporate governance, finance and development, and public policy. He has published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial Intermediation, and the Journal of International Business Studies.
Rajesh has authored and edited ten books on subjects ranging from Finance and Public Policy to Artificial Intelligence and civil society action. These include the widely-used The Oxford Short Introduction to Public Policy in India, and non-academic non-fiction like the Grit, Guts and Gumption and Bihar Breakthrough. He has authored case studies available at Harvard Business Publishing and has served as a columnist at the Financial Express.
Dr. Chakrabarti has held editorial and advisory positions with journals like Corporate Governance – An International Review, Journal of Development Policy and Practice, and Springer’s Advanced Studies in Emerging Markets Finance series.
Dr. Chakrabarti has been affiliated with global institutions like the Wharton School, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, as well the India Development Foundation and Center for Development Policy and Practice in India. He has provided research support to the Planning Commission’s High-Powered Committee on Financial Sector Reforms headed by Dr. Raghuram Rajan, and has served on committees of financial regulators like IRDAI. He has also served as Executive Vice President at the Wadhwani Foundation, and co-founded Sunay Policy Advisory, a policy consulting firm.
Before returning to India to join ISB, Dr. Chakrabarti taught at the University of Alberta, Canada and Georgia Institute of Technology, following a Ph.D. in Management from UCLA. He holds a PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad and a B.Sc. in Economics from Presidency College, Kolkata.
With a blend of academic rigor, policy insight, and institution-building experience, Rajesh Chakrabarti continues to influence management and public policy discourse in India and beyond.
