Dr. Vivek Gupta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the IIT Kanpur, with the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award for his research on mechanical metamaterials and vibration engineering. Prior to joining SNU, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Precision and Microsystems Engineering Department at TU Delft, the Netherlands, where he worked on active mechatronic metamaterials, precision engineering, and intelligent vibration control in collaboration with ASML.
His research lies at the intersection of Wave Propagation, Dynamics & Vibrations-Control, Elastic/Acoustic Metamaterials, Smart Materials, Programmable Metamaterials and Inverse Design using Machine Learning. His work integrates analytical modelling, computational mechanics, machine learning, control systems, and high-precision experimental validation to develop adaptive structures capable of manipulating vibrations, waves, and dynamic behaviour. His research aims to translate fundamental discoveries in metamaterials into practical technologies for precision manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, semiconductor systems, and next-generation intelligent engineering systems.
He has held international research appointments and collaborations with TU Delft (Netherlands), Swansea University (UK), Kitakyushu University (Japan), and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA). His research has been supported through prestigious international programmes including the SPARC Fellowship and the Sakura Science Exchange Programme.
At Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Dr. Gupta's vision is to establish an internationally recognized research programme on next-generation intelligent metamaterials and adaptive structural systems, integrating mechanics, materials, sensing, control, and artificial intelligence to address challenging engineering problems of the future.
