Dr. Anand Parappadi Krishnan is a Fellow at the Centre of Excellence for Himalayan Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Shiv Nadar University, and an Adjunct Fellow, at the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi (ICS). He is also the Assistant Editor of China Report: A Journal of East Asian Studies, which is India’s only peer-reviewed journal focussed on China and East Asia.

He was formerly a full-time Research Associate and Programme Officer at ICS. Dr. Krishnan holds a PhD in Chinese Studies from the Centre for East Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and his doctoral thesis examined the state-labour interface in post 1980s China through the lens of social welfare. He was a Non-Resident Fellow at the India China Institute, The New School for Social Research, New York City, USA under their China India Scholar Leaders Initiative, from 2018-21. He also had a stint as Visiting Fellow, at the Harvard Yenching Institute, Massachusetts, USA, in 2016-17. Before joining the Centre of Excellence for Himalayan Studies, he was a visiting faculty at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, offering a course on comparing development and state capacity in China and India.

He is interested in the phenomenon termed as Global China, especially the worldwide expansion of Chinese companies and increasing role in geopolitics. His other research interests include India-China economic relations, geopolitics of industrial development, consumer electronics’ supply chains, labour relations in the Global South and state-society relations in China and India.
