YOGA ASANAS DEMONSTRATION COMPETITION 2019

Department of Physical Education organised YOGA ASANAS DEMONSTRATION COMPETITION 2019 on 05/02/2019 with enthusiastic participation of students, faculty and staff members. Indians, since the ancient times have experienced the numerous benefits of Yoga as a way of life and a healing practice for the mind and the body. In more recent centuries, especially in the modern times more prone to mental stress and physical strife, people across the world have adopted Yoga for its scientific values and methodological virtues. SNU has also demonstrated a strong conviction towards Yoga in the campus to promote and inculcate this traditional practice for healthy mind and body.

The competition saw participation from undergraduate, graduate, PhD, as well as faculty members. Participants showcased their strengths and flexibilities in various aspects of yogasan by performing their best 10 asanas and each asana was awarded by maximum 10 mark. The contestants were judged by Dr Amrish Tony, Deputy Director, Department of Physical Education and lopal Singh, Yoga instructor. There were separate categories for male and female.

Medals were given to the winners. Overall, being the first yoga competition in the university, the event was a success, with new opportunities being given to yoga in the university and motivating them for taking yoga to next level for competing in, state level, national and international events.
