If there is one thing common to each SNU student, it is the desire to learn without being limited by borders. In testimony to that, one of our final year students, Abhishek Srivastava, was at the prestigious Inria Lab in Paris, France for a research internship in the preceding summer. He had received a funded internship offer from a professor and was there for a duration of two and a half months.

Abhishek had also received monetary support for his travel from the university after being deemed an exceptional student by the Vice-Chancellor. He is the first undergraduate student in the history of SNU to be funded for a foreign program.

At Inria, Abhishek worked primarily at the intersection of computational linguistics and deep learning. In one of the two projects that he worked on during his time there, he designed a tool that could predict sociodemographic features about a user by just looking at their tweets. The other project was about transfer learning in a low-resource code-mixed setting.

Recently, his work got selected for a poster presentation at the EurNLP conference in London to be held on October 11th, 2019. The selection process for the conference was very competitive; and out of 179 valid submissions, only 57 were accepted. Abhishek has also received a grant that has covered the air flight and his stay in London for the conference.

Previously, Abhishek has been a part of the team that came first in the Software Edition of the Smart India Hackathon 2019 for the MathWorks problem statement. He is also a consistent awardee of the Deans' List and has once won a special mention in his third semester for a perfect semester GPA.

Shiv Nadar University is proud of his achievements and stands behind him during his future journey. He is one of our many students who are going beyond conventions and truly justifying the motto of "Change the Course."

Abhishek was involved in research at Shiv Nadar University too. He completed a project under Dr. Dolly Sharma under the SNU's flagship Opportunities for Undergraduate Research (OUR) program in which he worked on code-mixed Hinglish data. His work went on to win the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 3rd Students' Research Convention 2019 at IIT Kanpur.
