Applications are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a DST-funded research project entitled “Development of Catalytic Enantioselective Carbon-Fluorine Bond Formation Reaction” on a three years project (SCP/2022/000168) to work under the supervision of Dr. Ajoy Kapat (https://chemistry.snu.edu.in/people/faculty/ajoy-kapat) Department of Chemistry, School of Natural Sciences, Shiv Nadar IoE, NH - 91, Tehsil Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar Uttar Pradesh - 201314
Project Synopsis:
Our goal is to develop a highly enantioselective carbon-fluorine bond formation reaction and its application in the synthesis of active pharmaceuticals.
Objectives
• Design and synthesis of a library of catalysts and next-generation radical fluorinating agent.
• Identification of optimized reaction condition for selective fluorination reaction.
• Application in the synthesis of active pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
• Detailed mechanistic study utilizing modern experimental techniques to understand the reaction mechanism in details.
• To study biological activities of the fluorinated molecules.
Nature of work:
These works involve the preparation of organometallic reagents, the synthesis and characterization of enantiomerically pure organic molecules. The first part involves the development of an efficient fluorination strategy applying transition metal catalyzed reaction to synthesize library of compounds and second part involves the detailed mechanistic study utilizing both computational and experimental tools. This work will provide unique opportunity to learn modern synthetic tools as well as hands-on experience of sophisticated instruments such as Glove Box, HPLC, HRMS, NMR & IR.
Essential and Desirable Qualifications:
-The candidate should have a Master’s degree (with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade) in Chemistry (Organic/Inorganic) from a UGC-recognized University or Institution.
- The candidate should have good analytical and communication skill.
- Familiarity with organic synthesis and characterizations will be preferred.
- Understanding of reaction mechanism of organic and organometallic reactions is desirable.
- Candidates with CSIR/UGC-NET/GATE are encouraged to apply.
Duration of the Project: 3 Years. The candidate will be hired for a year and can be extended further based on satisfactory performance.
Fellowship: As per DST norms, fellowship is ₹31,000/- p.m. plus HRA for JRF (year I & II) and fellowship is ₹35,000/- p.m. plus HRA for SRF (year III).
Eligible and interested candidates should submit their application with a complete CV (having personal and academic details, academic qualifications, research experiences, publications, name, affiliation and email address of at least two referees). Also, send photocopies of marksheets/testimonials/certificates, a recent passport size photograph, and other relevant documents as PDF attachment via email (preferable) or hard copies by Speed Post to the below address. All documents should reach the address: Department of Chemistry, Office No. A227, School of Natural Sciences, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Tehsil Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP 201314, India; to Dr. Ajoy Kapat (ajoy.kapat@snu.edu.in). on or before 16th December 2022. All shortlisted candidates will be informed through email on 16th December, 2022. Interview will be held on 17.12.2022 starting 10:00 am through Microsoft Teams/Google meeting for which the link will be shared to the candidates.
No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview.
