Sites of History: Unmaking, Reviving, and Recreating International Relations through the First Great Debate

Event Date:
Thursday, 02 Aug 2018

On 2 August 2018, the Department of International Relations and Governance Studies organised its first talk of the monsoon 2018 semester. Delivered by Ms. Ananya Sharma of Jawaharlal Nehru University, it provided a critique of the notion of the First Great Debate that supposedly led to the emergence of the discipline of International Relations (IR). Ms. Sharma spoke about the role that narratives play in privileging certain points of view and delegitimizing others, and made a case for pluralism in international relations thinking.
