Position Description
Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, School of Natural Sciences, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (SNIoE). We are currently welcoming applicants with expertise in the broad area of Geometry & Topology (see Research Goals and Focus Areas below).
A PhD in Mathematics with an outstanding academic record and significant postdoctoral research experience is required.

We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates who:
- Have a strong record of research accomplishments in Geometry & Topology, with clear potential to build an independent, internationally competitive, and externally funded research program.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, student mentoring and advising, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Are enthusiastic about contributing to the department's academic, research, and outreach activities.
The selected candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a dynamic, innovative research program while playing an active role in departmental teaching and mentoring.
Research Goals and Focus Areas
The Department seeks candidates whose research contributes to contemporary developments in Geometry and/or Topology. Applications are welcome from candidates working in areas including, but not limited to:
- Differential Geometry: Riemannian and semi-Riemannian geometry, geometric analysis, curvature and geometric structures, submanifold theory, and related areas.
- Algebraic and Complex Geometry: Algebraic geometry, complex geometry, moduli spaces, and related geometric structures.
- Topology and Geometric Topology: Algebraic topology, differential topology, geometric topology, low-dimensional topology, knot theory, and related areas.

About the Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Shiv Nadar IoE offers academic programs and courses that reflect the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary vision of the university. The curriculum provides a strong foundation for higher studies as well as diverse career opportunities in industry. Mathematicians are in high demand across sectors such as investment banking, insurance, financial services, engineering consultancy, medical research, bioinformatics, software development, cybersecurity, and defense. Currently, the department offers B.Sc. (Research) in Mathematics and Ph.D. programs. In addition, the department is launching a new undergraduate program, B.Sc. (Research) in Computational Mathematics and AI, from Monsoon 2027.
A special feature is the integration of hands-on work and research into all our programs. Other distinguishing characteristics are:
- Melting of the artificial barriers between pure and applied mathematics and between mathematics and other disciplines.
- Emphasis on modern computing skills and project work featuring applications to real-world problems.
- Accessibility to students from diverse backgrounds.
The faculty members have expertise across diverse areas of both pure and applied mathematics, such as functional analysis, differential geometry, number theory, representation theory, quantum groups, complex networks, mathematical modelling, statistics, mathematical finance, mathematical biology, and machine learning. They have studied or worked at leading institutions across the world, and their research is published in journals of high international repute. With approximate twenty faculty members, the Department is well-placed to offer a variety of courses and activities.
Activities & Recognition
In 2015, the Department won the DST-FIST grant towards setting up a Departmental Research Computer Lab, as well as a dedicated Department Library. The Department has also hosted and organized important national conferences and schools in mathematics such as the Annual Foundational School, Advanced Instructional School, Annual Conference of Indian Women in Mathematics, Annual Conference of Ramanujan Mathematical Society, National Conference on Cross-Disciplinary Applications of allied topics.
