Prof. Srikant Datar’s Session
The SME had delightful and enriching session conducted by Dr. Srikant M. Datar, who is the Arthur Lowes Dickinson Professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Harvard University since July 1996, and he previously served as a professor at Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University. A consultant to many internationally acclaimed companies he has extensive advisory experience and serves on the board among others of ICF International Inc. and HCL Technologies. He is the leading global thought leader on Design Thinking which he teaches at Harvard Business School and is mentoring at the SME. He interacted with the students on July 15 2014 about his experience of innovation and design thinking.
In sync with SME's vision of producing managers with entrepreneurial orientation and providing industry exposure by allotting 10 days of every terms towards practice components, an entrepreneurship workshop was organized on July 30-31, 2014. Mr. Amit Grover, an IIT-Delhi and IIM-Indore alumnus and himself the founder of his entrepreneurship venture Nurture Talent Academy was the key resource person. During the two days the students were involved in interactive activities like idea generation, making business plans and making a pitch for their ideas. Ways of effective digital marketing was also covered during the Workshop.
Prof. Takashi Sakikawa’s Lecture
SME organized a guest lecture on August 18, 2014 by Dr. Takashi Sakikawa, Professor of Organizational Behaviour at Niigata University, Japan. Prof. Sakikawa is a well-known scholar and researcher in the field of OB and is the author of the Japanese book Organizational Culture and Innovation (1998) and Transforming Japanese Workplaces. With his rich global experience and being the world’s window to leading Japanese HR practices, he shared knowledge about the various management practices and organizational culture of Japanese companies in the traditional as well as the global changing perspective. The students opined that for them it was indeed elevating and rewarding to know of such new era management thoughts and principles.
Prof. Rabikar Chatterjee’s lecture
SME organized a guest lecture on 21st November 2014 by Prof. Rabikar Chatterjee on the theme -“Important Trends in Marketing: Understanding Their Implications for Business Practice”. Prof. Chatterjee is Associate Dean for Masters and Executive Programs and the Gulf Oil Foundation Professor of Business at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business. He earned his PhD in Marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He has served on the faculties of the University of Michigan’s Business School and Purdue University's Krannert Graduate School of Management. He has also been a visiting professor at various universities in Australia, India, and Korea. Prior to his career in academia, he had eight years of industry experience in engineering, project management, sales management, marketing, and strategic planning positions.
During the highly interactive session, students received valuable insights on current research dimensions in the marketing area.
A talk by Mitch Rosin
A guest talk by Mr. Mitch Rosin was conducted at SME for the MBA Batch 2014-16 on 10th December 2014. During his talk, Rosin talked about ‘Developing Business Competencies in the Global era’.
Mitch Rosin is the Founder and Strategic consultant at P2C Solutions LLC. P2C Solutions provides consulting services in the fields of Strategic planning operations, marketing, product development and project management. Some of its clients include Aspiring minds, Cengage learning, Jump Education, Vellore institute of technology, SEED India and McGraw Hill Education.
Rosin had a major stint of his career with Mc Graw Hill Education, where he worked at several positions like Director-Adult Education and Workforce initiatives, Editorial Director, National Consultant-Sales and Marketing and Senior Editor. With several publications to his credit, Rosin has also been on the panel of numerous roundtable conferences and summits worldwide. Rosin has earned a double post graduate in science in International Public Service and Curriculum Design and Development from De Paul University, Chicago and Western Connecticut State University, Danbury respectively. He has also done Master of Arts in Education from New York University.
Guest lecture by Mr. Rajat Jain, MD of Xerox India Ltd.
A highly insightful guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Rajat Jain, Managing Director of Xerox India Ltd. to the MBA students at SME on 17th November 2014. In his session, Mr. Jain talked about his strategy on expanding Xerox's channel presence and strengthening its partner relationships across India. He also talked about his management philosophy, his entrepreneurial ventures and how he has taken calculated risks to push organizations towards achieving significant goals.
An Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi and Post Graduate from IIM Ahmedabad, Mr. Jain has been Managing Director of Indian Operations at Xerox Corp. since 2012. Mr. Jain has over two decades of experience across Consumer, Telecom and Media sectors. His key areas of expertise include understanding consumers across segments, building and working with high performance teams and growing businesses that revolve around brands. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Mobile2win India Pvt. Ltd. He served as a Vice President and Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company (India) Pvt Ltd. and Walt Disney Television International (India) where he was responsible for coordinating and overseeing growth opportunities, targeting new businesses, expanding and increasing penetration of the existing ones and leading the development of business operations across the country. He was also the Executive Vice President and Business Head at Sony Entertainment Television, India.
