As a teacher in the Humanities, my primary aim is to enable students to develop a lively intellectual temper. In other words, to encourage students to
critically examine ideas and beliefs they take for granted, and to see that, usually, neither side of an argument has a monopoly on the truth.
As the Buddhist saying goes: "Things are not as they seem; nor are they otherwise."
